Why are you running for this executive position?
With social media continuously growing day by day, it is the main source of how we advertise exciting events and gain new member involvement in SWE! When I initially wanted to learn more about SWE prior to becoming an official member, I remember the entertaining reels and colorful graphics from the previous year drawing me in from day one.
I am running for the position of Vice President of Public Relations (PR) because I have genuinely learned so much from my current involvement with this branch and would love to carry out many of the present ideas and customs we have while also exploring new plans for the future! The work that the public relations branch does has been intriguing to me, and it always seemed to align best with my personal skills and interests. I love doing work that allows me to utilize qualities such as creativity, organization, and communication, which can all be implemented into the various aspects of public relations!
Through my role as the social media logistics director, I have gotten a more in-depth view of how digital media works by collaborating with the current PR team on multiple projects that incorporated graphic design, branding, social media management, advertising, and general content creation.
With the work that I have done with my committee members, I have gotten valuable experience leading a team, and I believe this will greatly benefit my familiarity with leading a larger team in the future. Finally, by combining my love for brainstorming new ideas with others and the skills that I have built from my past years in SWE, I aim to continue building a welcoming experience for new members and an enjoyable time for current ones!
What is your past involvement with SWE at UW?
I have been involved in SWE since the end of 2021, my freshman year at UW! My first ever role was the content coordinator for the 2022 Summer Leadership Conference (SLC), which was actually put together by our current president, Simona, as a completely new event! The SLC committee was able to bring about sixty high school girls from various schools to UW’s campus so they could grow their interests in engineering and the college experience through workshops, lab visits, and RSO fairs. My responsibilities centered heavily around designing materials such as merchandise that would be included in the students’ swag bags, logos, graphics, and collaborating on slideshow presentations for the event with our team. It was fascinating to see SLC blossom from scratch and contribute to an event that provided valuable experiences for high school girls to grow their passion and get a glimpse of how fun engineering can be.
Now as a sophomore, I am the social media logistics director for SWE within the public relations branch! My role entails overseeing an awesome social media liaison committee, posting on our social media accounts, brainstorming and creating content (TikToks, story polls and highlights, graphics, etc.) for special monthly events like our recent Black History Month post featuring prominent female engineers, and managing our social media calendar based on advertisement requests we receive from all branches.
Finally, as a general member, I have been able to participate and meet new people in so many cool events, such as our general meetings, evening with industry (EWI), Dawg Daze, and many of the other fun and professional events that SWE holds each month!

Why are you running for this executive position?
As a singer and dancer, I have always been drawn to the power of social media as a means of expressing my creativity. From creating music videos on YouTube to managing a TikTok account with my sister, I have gained extensive experience in content creation and maintaining a strong social media presence, skills which I believe would make me a strong candidate for VP of Public Relations.
Over the past two years, I have worked within the PR team as a graphics designer and website director, where I have learned to compartmentalize different tasks and accomplish them in a timely manner.
Additionally, I am also currently the choreography lead in UW Natya, the Indian Classical dance team here. As a part of my role I grew comfortable hosting meetings, both in person and online, along with facilitating brainstorming sessions with the team similar to how a VP would lead a PR meeting. These leadership skills along with the work ethic that I developed while working in the PR team will aid in my success in this position.
As VP of Public Relations, my primary goal is to ensure that all SWE social media platforms are up-to-date and relevant, to attract new members to the SWE community. I will also collaborate with the other executives to improve the culture of transparency and inclusivity we already have at SWE.
What is your past involvement with SWE at UW?
During my freshman year, I joined SWE as a graphics designer and collaborated with my peers to design content summarizing upcoming events and develop several viral TikTok and Reel videos. Developing ideas for content beyond infographics was a rewarding experience that required me to put on different hats and think from various perspectives to determine what people wanted to see.
Currently, I am serving as the Website Director and work closely with the VP of PR, Isha, to ensure that the website is always up-to-date with upcoming events. This role also necessitates that I maintain a clear line of communication with the executive board's members to fulfill their website requests promptly. In my two years at SWE, I have gained valuable insights into how SWE operates effectively despite being the largest engineering club on campus. The messages communicated by the VPs are always conveyed efficiently and public information is readily accessible. I will strive to maintain these standards.
The skills I have developed have made me a better worker and leader, and I aspire to demonstrate my abilities next year as Vice President of Public Relations.
