Vice President of Public Relations Candidates

Tanya Prihar

Why are you running for this executive position?

I am running for VP of PR because I was blessed to be a part of our amazing PR team this year and am excited for the opportunity to take my role one step further! As Social Media Content Director, I am currently responsible for managing our social media accounts and overseeing a committee. This role has given me the skills I need to manage a team–leading meetings, distributing workloads, and organizing resources. I want to expand these skills, challenging myself to oversee a larger group of people. This is the perfect opportunity for me to gain valuable leadership experience and skills that will help me in the future! I am also hoping to enhance my professional communication skills. I’m definitely a people person–I love talking to and meeting different people, but I want to get better at communicating more professionally. As for my technical skills, I have extensive experience in video production. Back in high school, I had an editing account on Instagram with 2k+ followers and up to 30k views per post. This is what sparked my passion for creating videos and content! I became Marketing Director for another club at UW, where I made reels for our events, one of them exceeding 350k+ views! I have also created lots of story and video content for all platforms throughout my time at SWE! With all my content creation, marketing, and leadership experience, I feel that I have the skills required to successfully lead a PR team in managing all platforms. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to take on a prominent leadership role that is focused around social media and PR, something I’ve always been passionate about. Especially in an organization that has already taught me so much about leadership and working as part of a team!

What is your past involvement with SWE at UW?

I’m currently the Social Media Content Director of UW SWE, where I have mainly been running the SWE Instagram account (responding to DM’s, writing captions for our posts, and posting reminders and highlights stories) and overseeing the social media committee (delegating content posted on TikTok and LinkedIn and overseeing all content creation). Along with my responsibilities as Content Director, I’ve had so much fun this past year working on extremely fun PR projects! Here are a few of my favorite projects:

I designed stickers to sell during our Dawg Daze events. My favorite sticker I designed was the “This Barbie is an Engineer” sticker. It was so cool seeing my design come to life and I was so glad everyone enjoyed it!

I created trendy TikToks and Instagram Reels to increase social media engagement. My favorite Reel was our skit for Dawg Daze promotion–you can see Darby and I frantically building tables as practice for the table-building competition!

I designed officer summer highlights to post on our Instagram story. I loved getting to know more of the SWE directors and execs!

I got to plan the November GM with the rest of the PR team! It was so fun working together to come up with fun Halloween themed games and activities. Before my position as director, I was a general member of SWE last year. As a general member, I attended general meetings every month and participated in SWEHacks! I learned so much from participating in SWEHacks like how to work well in a project-based team and how to use Figma. I now use these skills in my everyday life! I appreciate that I got the opportunity to be both a general member and a director at SWE, as I got to experience both sides of this empowering community.
