Vice President of Public Relations Candidates

Why are you running for this executive position?

I am running for Vice President of Public Relations because I am passionate about art and would love to be more involved in SWE next year. The SWE community has given me a place where I can meet other women who are passionate about engineering and it has allowed me to make many connections within UW in an environment where I feel comfortable. Holding an executive officer position would help me grow my skills in professional social media while also contributing to this growing community of engineers. As an HCDE student, I am interested in human and technology interaction, in which public relations plays an important role. When I first discovered SWE I found out about the first events through Instagram which encouraged me to go to the meetings; this is a perfect example of the importance of human and technology interaction and public image. Throughout my two years on the Public Relations team, I have learned a lot from the previous executive officers and I hope to have the same positive impact on members next year. Overall, the more people I meet in SWE, the more I want to get involved and participate in this community.

What is your past involvement with SWE at UW?

As a freshman, I joined SWE looking for a community of like-minded people who were passionate about academics and who could inspire me to do my best. After attending a few info sessions about the club, I knew that SWE held exactly what I was looking for. After I heard the descriptions of the different committees, I knew that SWE would be a perfect creative outlet for me. I value art and creativity just as much as I value science and engineering. I applied for the PR committee and joined the group as the Content Creator. Through this position, I was able to meet amazing people and post many TikToks and Reels to the designated SWE accounts. After getting the account up and running, I helped create TikTok videos to be posted every other week. At the end of the year I applied to be a SWE general officer, and I was selected as the Social Media Logistics Cordinator. Over the past year, I have helped keep SWE’s social media accounts on a strict schedule by coordinating posts on Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. This position has taught me about time management and delegation.
