Vice President of Public Relations Candidates

Why are you running for this executive position?

As a dancer, I have always been drawn to the power of social media as a means of expressing my creativity. From creating music videos on YouTube to managing a TikTok account with my sister, I have gained extensive experience in content creation and maintaining a strong social media presence, skills which I believe would make me a strong candidate for VP of Public Relations.

Over the past two years, I have worked within the PR team as a graphics designer and website director, where I have learned to compartmentalize different tasks and accomplish them in a timely manner.

Additionally, I am also currently the President of UW Natya, the Indian Classical dance team here. As a part of my role I grew comfortable hosting meetings, both in person and online, along with facilitating brainstorming sessions with the team similar to how a VP would lead a PR meeting. These leadership skills along with the work ethic that I developed while working in the PR team will aid in my success in this position.

As VP of Public Relations, my primary goal is to ensure that all SWE social media platforms are up-to-date and relevant, to attract new members to the SWE community. I will also collaborate with the other executives to improve the culture of transparency and inclusivity we already have at SWE.

What is your past involvement with SWE at UW?

My involvement with UW SWE began three years ago when I joined as a member of the Graphics Committee. In this role, I contributed to the creation of Instagram posts, leveraging my creativity to engage with our audience effectively. Building on this experience, I transitioned into the role of Website Director in my second year. This position required close coordination with the Vice President of Public Relations and other VPs to maintain the relevance and accuracy of information on our website, ensuring that it served as a reliable resource for our members and the wider community.

Currently, as the Secretary of UW SWE, I play a vital role in the organization's administrative functions. Collaborating closely with the President and Treasurer, I contribute to strategic planning sessions aimed at expanding SWE's reach and impact. By leveraging my organizational skills and attention to detail, I ensure that our meetings are well-documented and that important decisions are accurately recorded for future reference.

Additionally, my role involves working in tandem with the current Vice President of Public Relations to develop and implement communication strategies. Whether it's drafting newsletters, coordinating social media campaigns, or fostering partnerships with other organizations, I strive to enhance SWE's visibility and engagement within the university and beyond.

Overall, my SWE journey has been marked by a progressive increase in responsibility and a commitment to driving positive change within the team. From content creation to website management to administrative duties, each role has equipped me with valuable skills and insights that I continue to apply in my current capacity as Secretary. Through these experiences, I have not only contributed to the growth and success of SWE but have also developed personally and professionally, gaining valuable leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that will serve me well in my future endeavors.
